Holiday Essential Oils

I’ve been pretty much AWOL from this lil bit of internet for a while. It’s been a busy season. Let me catch you up: I’ve been knee deep in organic chemistry since August. My final was a week ago (that’s the biggest reason I’ve been gone). In October my big sister got married (I think I talked about it briefly, but it was wonderful… albeit busy). At the beginning of November I traveled back to North Carolina to celebrate my best friends’ bachelorette party. And then just over a week later, I flew back again for the actual wedding (again, the most fun ever, but also busy af). A couple of days later, I flew to Idaho to visit with Mark’s family for Thanksgiving (needless to say, I’m taking a little break from traveling). Once I got back to L.A I had to study for a test, and then after that I went right into studying for finals. So there wasn’t a ton of time to be spent writing. I’m sad about that, but it had to be done.

Last semester, when I took my first organic chemistry class, I thought and talked a LOT about time management and not underestimating yourself or how much you can juggle at once. I was so proud of myself for working full time, doing well in the class, and keeping up with this blog and my other hobbies. This semester, I definitely remembered those ideas, but I also made more deliberate efforts to focus on things that really needed my attention: wedding prep, spending time with Mark (something I didn’t excel at last semester), saving money for the holidays, practicing self care in the form of actually relaxing, etc. I guess what I’m saying is it was a good reminder that no recipe for success (or even, recipe for getting by) is the same. No two situations in life will be identical and just because you didn’t handle one the same way you handled the other, doesn’t mean you’ve failed. You just gotta do what you gotta do!

Anyway, it’s over now and I can finally start writing all the draft posts I’ve been thinking of that are just SITTING HERE. Let’s get to it!

The topic today is oils. You’ve probably seen them everywhere lately because, ugh, they’re pretty trendy. But they’re also really amazing and I 100% advocate for using them and integrating them into your home and lifestyle. A couple of months ago I finally pulled the trigger on something I’ve been meaning to do for over 2 years and purchased the Young Living Essential Oils Starter Kit. My membership in the YL program so far has been awesome: I’m getting all these high quality oils at a discounted member price, and it’s been really fun to test out different diffusing blends and other healthy uses for them. Today, I’m sharing a few blends and uses for the holidays that I have been dying over!

Christmas Village: 2 drops Christmas Spirit + 2 drops Orange

Family Christmas Tree: 3 drops Idaho Blue Spruce + 2 drops Cedarwood + 1 drop Christmas Spirit (I diffuse this when I’m cozied up on the couch, with the tree lit, watching a holiday movie and it is ideal).

Deck The Halls: 3 drops Orange + 3 drops Thieves + 2 drops Lemon (Makes you feel so refreshed and happy, just like the song!)

Candy Cane Lane: 3 drops Stress Away + 3 drops Peppermint (I diffuse this in the mornings when I’m drinking coffee to promote good vibes and focus)

All Ye Faithful: 2 drops Orange + 2 drops Frankincense + 2 drops Joy

2 If you’re like me, you love a good festive drink! I adore a peppermint mocha a few times during the season but really don’t love the sugar content or what it does to my waistline. An awesome hack I recently shared on my Instagram was to add a drop or two of Peppermint vitality oil to a latte made with chocolate almond milk (hot or iced)!  It tastes just the same. And if it’s too late for caffeine, add it to your hot cocoa for a peppermint hot chocolate!

Topically, my 3 favorite uses so far have been this: I added 3 drops of Lavender to my mascara that I wear every day so that my lashes grow longer and fuller (hopefully in time for New Years eve!). I add a drop or two of Frankincense to my face, neat, to treat any blemishes that pop up during the month (thanks, sugar cookies). And I rub Joy on my wrists daily to combat the winter blues, which I have mostly because it’s getting dark sooo much earlier now and there’s not even snow on the ground to make it worth it!

That’s all, folks! It’s a lot of fun- seems intimidating at first but honestly the money I save on not buying every candle in sight alone makes it all worth it. And my journey is just beginning!
